At Big Dog we’re always looking for better ways to provide our customers with craft beers just as the brewer intended. In the spring of 2020 we started on the path to provide “Crowlers”, 32 oz in the can that provides more protection to staleness than the standard soft sealed growlers. We are also looking closely at online ordering so that your crowler or can will be ready for pickup when you are.
Growlers come in all shapes and sizes and we fill pretty much all of them. If you need a growler, chances are we can help with that too. On tap are many choices of craft beverage ranging from a non alcoholic root beer from Rogue Brewing, Cider’s and Kombucha’s
In May of 2020, Big Dog finalized our move into the Crowler market. We currently only fill 32oz cans which is the standard crowler size. We are also moving forward with online ordering so it will be ready for pickup when you arrive. This new way of pre-ordering a crowler is still being created but should be available soon
Big Dog now offers retail cans from a few select Northwest breweries. These options are packaged at the Brewery and are the standard commercially available product. With the growing popularity of seltzer’s and ciders, we have a select few of these available as well. When the online ordering of crowlers goes live, these will also be an available option
First up, growlers are refillable containers used for beer. … In addition to glass, there are growlers made from stainless steel and other materials that keep the beer cold and fresh longer. Crowlers are quite a bit different but accomplish the same goal. They are 32oz cans that can be filled and sealed onsite
Crowlers also keep the beer fresher for a longer amount of time than a growler does. The typical growler keeps beer fresh and carbonated for about three days before it really starts to degrade. Crowlers keep their brews fresh for about a month, unless you decide to play football with it.
What size is a crowler? Crowlers are 32 oz (slightly under a litre)– which is half the size of a growler. Crowlers are twice the size of a regular (355ml) can of beer– holding approximately two pints of beer
But don’t confuse crowlers for beer cans. They aren’t necessarily packaged the same way, making the shelf life of a crowler limited. For the maximum freshness they should be consumed within a week. Always keep a crowler refrigerated or on ice
Speaking of freshness, crowlers aren’t refillable, which is actually a benefit. Rather than bring them back to the brewer, you recycle them and purchase a new can. Growlers often come with a higher cost upfront, as you’re paying for the reusable glass or stainless container.
